Slow Drains or Backups in the Home

Possible Causes:

  • Full septic tank

  • Clogged inlet/outlet pipes

  • Blockage in household plumbing

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Check if the issue is isolated to one drain (could be a plumbing clog).

  • If multiple drains are slow, or you hear gurgling sounds, it may be septic-related.

  • Avoid running more water to prevent a backup.

  • Check for signs of a full tank if you have an inspection port.

When to Call:

  • If the problem affects more than one fixture

  • There is standing water/sewage.

Odors Inside or Outside

Possible Causes:

  • Tank is full or overdue for pumping

  • Vent pipe blockage

  • Failed system components (pump, aerator)

  • Drain field issues

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Check around vent pipes for obstructions (bird nests, leaves).

  • Ensure no broken sewer cleanout caps outdoors.

  • If you smell strong odor indoors, run water in all drains — dry traps can cause smells.

When to Call:

  • If odor persists or is very strong outside the home.

Alarm Sounding on Aerobic System

Possible Causes:

  • Loss of air supply (failed aerator)

  • High water level

  • Electrical failure

  • Broken or clogged pump

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Red Light ON Click here

  • Amber Light ON Click here

  • Check circuit breakers and GFCI outlets first.

  • Press alarm reset (if available) — if alarm reactivates, leave it ON and call.

  • Listen for pump or aerator noise — silence may indicate equipment failure.

When to Call:

  • Any time the alarm cannot be cleared

  • System is silent

Wet Spots or Pooling Water Over Drain Field

Possible Causes:

  • Drain field overloaded or failing

  • Excessive water use

  • Tank not pumping properly

  • Clogged system components

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Reduce household water use immediately.

  • Check for leaking faucets, toilets, or irrigation near the field.

  • Don’t drive or park over the area.

When to Call:

  • If pooling does not resolve within 24-48 hrs of reduced water use.

System Running Frequently / High Energy Bills / Sprays at Inappropriate Times

Possible Causes:

  • Aerator or pump running continuously

  • Float switch stuck

  • Leaking toilets/faucets causing system overload

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Listen to system components — aerator and pumps should cycle, not run nonstop.

  • Check for running toilets or dripping faucets.

  • Inspect your control panel if equipped — look for warning lights.

When to Call:

  • If components run continuously

  • You cannot locate a water leak
